Lolita looked with awe at her surroundings. She had wandered from her mother, something that was common with the black splash mare, and had found herself in a field full of blooming lavender. As far as she could see there were purple flowers, almost covering entirely the green grass beneath it. Her blue eyes had never beheld such a sight as this field.
She trotted forward, eager to explore. Her mother and she had only recently come to this place, Tathra she believed it was being called. They had left their previous home long after the other equines had abandoned it. And for a while, Lolita had been feeling homesick. But as she gazed and trotted through the lavender blooms, she could imagine this as her new home.
Lolita broke into a canter, her black tail trailing behind her like a flag. It was a wonderful day, the sun was shining and life was good. Why shouldn't she enjoy it all?
After a few moments Lolita came to a stop and dipped her nose to the grass below. To her surprise she found sweet red clover beneath the flowering lavender. With relish she munched it, enjoying the juicy sweet flavor of the flowers on her tongue. She didn't notice when her mother, Whimisical Treasure, joined her in the field.
Lolita had inherited her color from her mother. Whimsical Treasure, previously a race and polo horse and now called Treasure, was mostly white. However, along her back and neck there was blood bay red color, and her mane and tail were pure black. The red color fell along Treasure's back much like what humans call a cloak or cape. Lolita's black markings weren't as neat as her mother's, but just as eye catching.
So involved were the two mares in eating and enjoying the simple things, that they didn't notice it wouldn't be long before the field occupied more than just them.

Ra'avis was enjoying the South quite a bit. It wasn't as covered in trees or brambles as the East but it held the same mild climate that the warmblood enjoyed most. No biting cold nipping at his short hairs, no bright rays beating down upon his flesh. It was calm, peaceful, beautiful, but, if he was completely honest, it was a touch on the mundane side.
The red dragon would much prefer the exoticism of the Islands over the South even with the trek he had to make through a corner of the deserts. But, he couldn't pass by the flowering Lavender Fields on his way back from Elk Steppe even if it was just to walk through the tall stacks and enjoy their pleasant scent.
Now standing at the edge of the softly rolling hills, he was glad he gave in as his sage green gaze snapped to the black and white mare that broke his solitude.
She rocketed through the purple and green plants, seeming to enjoy her speed beneath the late spring sun. The mare's run was short, though, her boldly marked form coming to a halt a few moments after Ra'avis caught sight of her and her head lowering just as quick to nose about under the lavender. The powerfully built stallion took a few strides into the Field, stretching his mane-less neck upwards to offer a loud nicker in hopes of getting her attention.
Unfortunately, the sound never left his throat; cut off by the appearance of another similarly stained mare. This one had much cleaner markings than the original haphazardly splashed mare, but he couldn't judge. His own fiery orange pelt was faded to gold in large, misshapen splotches across his forequarters and left hind leg, the only visual remnants of a never-born twin.
A little twinge of guilt pricked his gut at the thought of disturbing the two horses simply enjoying each other's company and the clover beneath the Field's main attraction. For a moment he considered backing away, turning back towards the dead valley he had seen early.
Then that moment passed and that nicker he choked down rumbled softly from his nostrils.

((He is gorgeous! @malidoodle))
A nicker came to Lolita's ears, and she looked up with a start. It had been so long since she had seen another horse, that it was both a surprise and pleasure to see the gold and red stallion. She perked her ears in his direction, standing tall and proud. Lolita couldn't help but be curious about him. His coloration, like hers, was interesting. Patches of gold interrupted the red of his pelt, much like the white interrupted the black on hers. She couldn't see the color of his eyes from where she was, but Lolita had the sense that they wouldn't be brown.
Whimsical Treasure, who had also heard the stallion's nicker, merely lifted her head to look. Once she had satisfied her curiosity, she lowered her head once more to the grass and clover. She had no interest in young stallions passing through. She would leave the socialization to Lolita.
Lolita nickered back to the stallion, her voice softer and almost bell like. She took a few steps forward, towards him, as she whinnied with a little more confidence. After another uncertain moment, Lolita trotted towards him. She was eager to meet him, for wasn't that the reason they came to this place? Isn't it part of the reason they had left their previous land?
Lolita came to a stop a few feet from him, her ears perked towards him and her sides heaving slightly. “Hello.” She murmured quietly, suddenly nervous before him. She wasn't sure what to do now, and Lolita certainly didn't want to make a fool of herself. “I'm Lolita.” She added after a moment's hesitation.

Ra'avis breathed a small sigh of relief at the pair's reaction to a third joining their piece of Lavender Field. The bright blood bay barely gave him a glance over before lowering her white head back to what the two had been grazing upon before his interruption. The black splash had a bit more of a startled reaction; head shooting up from the flowers as her whole body seemed to perk up and become alert.
But she didn't seem to be frightened or angry judging by the light, lilting nicker she responded with and the more certain whinny that followed.
Curious most likely?
The powerfully built warmblood shook his head before lowering it and curling his neck slightly. He wouldn't make any judgements just yet, Vis would get the chance to pick up on the stranger's emotions soon enough; the painted creature was making quick work of the sloping Lavender Fields at a trot towards him.
When the tall mare finally come to a halt, her demeanour changed slightly, voice now quiet and almost unsure in offering up her name. "I'm sure it'll be quite a pleasure to have met you, Lolita." A lopsided smile he hope was reassuring slipped onto his dark lips as he dipped his chiseled head softly. He hoped to remove at least some of the nervousness his company felt, she was a pretty thing and he was determined to make her smile one way or another. "I'm Ra'avis, but Vis is preferred."
He paused for a heartbeat before shifting his muzzle to point over Lolita's black shoulders at the mare she had been grazing with. "Who's your traveling partner?"
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"

((@malidoodle, who is Aelle?))
Lolita pinned her ears back in blushing embarrassment as he bowed his head to her. Was this normal? Was he flirting? Or merely being polite? She couldn't be sure, but the action brought a smile to her face. She knew she should try to make a good impression, a lasting impression, for this was the first horse she had met in a relatively long time. And she didn't want to seem abnormal in any way. Not to mention, it would be nice to have a friend.
He had asked who her traveling companion was, and she was surprised with his voice. His voice rang with confidence and sincerity. Lolita arched her neck a bit, her embarrassment obvious. She looked over her shoulder breifly, to see what her mother was indeed doing. Whimsical Treasure was still grazing, not paying even the slightest bit of attention to what Lolita and the unknown stallion were doing.
“That's my mother, Whimsical Treasure.” Lolita said as she turned to look back at him. “We only arrived here a few days ago. It's been quite the adventure, Vis.” She said, letting his shortened name roll off her tongue. It was an interesting name, to say the least. Then again, Lolita wasn't exactly a common name either.
Lolita looked Vis up and down, again noting his interesting colored pelt. She also noticed his lack of mane. She wondered what it had been caused by, that lack of a mane. But then again, she knew that it was none of her business. She was curious, but she refused to be rude.
“What brings you out this way, Vis?” She asked quietly, trying to seem less nervous than she felt.

And there it was, that smile he had been hoping for. Coupled with the embarrassed angle of Lolita's ears, Vis wanted to grin like a schoolboy after his first kiss. Maybe he was getting a bit carried away, the black splash mare was still just a stranger to him. He couldn't help that he enjoyed her shy company, even if he felt he enjoyed it a touch too much.
She was like a beautifully painted porcelain doll that he didn't want to put down. But he kept a good chunk of his composure, pushing down the giddy feelings that had filled his chest.
When Lolita introduced the bay woman as her mother and offered Ra'avis her name, his head tilted slightly. Whimsical Treasure was still perfectly content in continuing her grazing without engaging with the two horses further off in the field and the stallion found it a bit odd she wasn't keeping a closer eye on her daughter. Then again, the younger mare seemed to be around Vis's age and could most likely handle herself without interference.
"I'll bet. You're quite lucky to have had someone to share that journey with. If you have any interesting tales to tell, I've the time to listen." He turned his springtime gaze back to those silvery blue of his conversation partner, curiosity written plainly across his features. The chimera's dark lips pursed for a moment or two as he contemplating whether or not to talk about himself without being invited to. But, once again, he lost that battle and the words slipped out. "I was meant to travel with a pair of cousins who I met after arriving, but I lost them not long after meeting them."
He noticed her gaze roaming across his patchwork frame and moved his own to scan the rest of the fields. The warmblood was used to the glances and would give Lolita the time to take in whatever oddities she found without feeling guilty of doing so.
Only when she spoke again did his attention snap back her white-capped face. "Happened to pass by while exploring the southern region of Tathra. This little corner of the world is surprisingly vast and untouched, though I was told that there are two-legged creatures that sometimes roam through."
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"

Lolita smiled at him as she realized he was watching her as intently as she was watching him. Vis was, so far, an interesting and handsome stallion. And Lolita was captured by how curious she was about him. She was nearly giddy with her want to talk and talk and talk with him. Never had she felt like this.
He told her, shortly, about cousins he was supposed to travel with. But he had lost them before the journey could start. Or perhaps along the way. She didn't know, and he didn't tell her. He had said it so simply, no further details, that it kept her wondering and wanting to know. He continued talking, however, so Lolita didn't get a chance to ask.
Vis mentioned two legged creatures. With a chill down her spine, Lolita knew that he spoke about humans. She knew plenty about humans, for her mother had been kept by them for years. Since she had been born, but Whimsical Treasure had escaped. And the bay splash mare didn't have any qualms about telling her daughter horror stories about humans.
Lolita shivered, pinning her ears back in fear and looking about herself. Just in case. “Those two legged creatures you mentioned. I fear they may be humans. They are dangerous creatures, who capture other horses and other creatures to do their work for them. My mother was kept by humans for years. They raced her against other horses, then locked her into wooden things they had built so that she couldn't turn or lay down.”
Lolita shivered once more, her silvery blue eyes scanning the surrounding area. Of course there were no humans here. It put her slightly at ease, but she needed a change of subject. She looked up at Vis, attempted and managed a weak smile and spoke. “Tell me about yourself. How did you come to be so handsomely colored?”
