denali; a mare with a large heart
The grass was soft and the rising sun warming against a light colored pelt. Soft, blue eyes fluttered open and adjusted as the young mare awoke from a slumber that was very much needed. Her name was Denali, a mare all on her own now, and she found herself in a serene and secluded area. As her dainty legs lifted her body back onto her hooves, muscles stretching and tensing as she groaned and stretched. Once her body was completely awake and aware, Denali lowered her nare's to the ground as she walked off in search of grass that hadn't been flattened by her body weight.
Stomach now full, Denali trotted to the water's edge and pawed, splashing the water up her neck and all over her front legs. The mare's long mane started to cling to her neck, as the thickness kept so much heat underneath, and the plunge would soon happen. With a squeal, Denali launched her body into the water, sending a coolness throughout her body when she continued into the deeper parts. Now the water was belly deep and the enjoyment of escaping the noon-time sun filled her body with high spirits. Now if only there was another equine to join her.
Denali was used to being alone in her journey, but now that this land had brought her some amount of friendly welcome, she figured sticking around would be a decent idea. The only problem was that she had yet to meet another equine. What if I'm the first of my kind to find this land? How cool would that be?.. Sorta. Swimming around in the deep water, made her muscular happy that she was finally exerting energy like she was used to.

Having Aellae ride upon his back was an odd feeling. While over three and a half feet of vulture checked in at just eleven pounds, adding little extra weight to his own mass which was but a few hundred shy of a short ton, it was her talons that made it difficult. In order to keep herself upright atop his back just behind his broad shoulders the lammergeier was forced to dig the tips of her large claws into Vis's fiery chestnut hide. This little insurance policy to keep her on her perch left him with a few bloodied pricks. The few tiny rivers of blood that did erupt from her rougher handling dried in small, thin streams only a few inches long.
The pain wasn't an issue, he would gladly accept the tiny wounds in return for a steadfast partner. It was the feeling of dried blood that made his skin crawl.
Ra'avis had tried rolling in grasses, dirt, sandy hollows, but it could only dislodge so much while crusting over what droplets form from the breaking of scabs. What he needed was water. Not shallow creeks where their beds were full of stones. Not muddy puddles that would add to the buildup on his patchwork coin(though he did give it thought due to the added benefits of insect repellent and protection from the soon-to-be summer sun).
No.
What he sought after was water. Deep enough to plunge his currently occupied back in and soak himself clean of his own fluids. And what better place to soak oneself than under the trees where the babbling roar of the Horseshoe Falls to keep you company. Well, the oddly shapes falls along with a red and yellow eyed bird that planned to do nothing but strut around on the shore and surrounding forests in search of small creatures to hunt. Aellae had kept him occupied with listening to her ramble on and on about how strange these trees were to a valley dweller, making the journey through the thick forests much more pleasant than the first time he had followed the Falls' rumbling laughter.
As pleasant as a walk can be when one hears mirthful squealing cut off their traveling partner.
Their heads immediately snapped in the direction of the noise. The chimera paused momentarily in his little march to pinpoint the where exactly the sound came from before continuing at a much quicker pace, much to the irritation of a fluffed up Aellae. Breaking the treeline into the small clearing that surrounded the pool of Horseshoe Falls took a few heartbeats longer than Vis had originally estimated, but it was well worth the extra time spent at a choppy, short trot.
Before the odd pair swam a pretty, well built champagne dun in the deeper portions of the sapphire pool. Offering up a polite snort in case she hadn't noticed the red and gold brute just yet, he gave her a soft dip of his head.
"Would you mind if I joined you in the waters? I'd like to kick this nuisance off my back for a few minutes."
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"

denali; a mare with a large heart
The sun that wonderful against her back as it slightly warmed the water around her and what parts of her body were still exposed. Kicking and pawing through the water and feeling it rush around her legs with each pump had started to make her muscles somewhat tired as Denali was not quite used to swimming in water this much. A few seconds in to contemplating the idea of going ashore to rest her hard working limbs, strangers revealed themselves at the forest's edge. At first, Denali was slightly alarmed, only catching a quick glimpse. Oh goodness.. I thought he was some kind of mutant.. Keeping that little bit to herself would probably be a good idea. The young fae giggled and paddled to a where she could easily stand without being too far out of the water.
"I wouldn't mind at all. My name is Denali. Who are you, sir?" She lilted, perking her cream and tan ears towards the stallion with the interesting bird. As her sky light eyes followed back to the looks of the stallion, she noticed his interesting traits. He was of two colors, chestnut and palomino, and sported a bald neck line. There was no mane and without thinking, Denali shook out her own long, silvery mane feeling the ends that had gotten wet during the swim, stick to her pelt. Hopefully, the stallion wouldn't connect her gaze with what she had done just then, but who knows. Denali averted her eyes to the surrounding background and looked for more creatures that could be among them.
The light mare felt the sun boring down on her back and instinctively, her legs backed farther into the water to give the relief she needed. Now, all the fae wanted to know was who this stallion was and what all he was about. Even though an invitation for the stranger to enter the water was accepted, her heart beat quickly in her chest, ready to bolt if needed to. Becoming hurt when she had just arrived to such a wonderful place was not in her itinerary for life. Guarding her body was first priority, yet her heart was the last. However, depending on who this stallion was would make or break how she felt about him or anyone associated, even the bird.

His presence, bearded vulture riding atop his back and all, didn't seem to faze the pale creature to greatly. She paddled towards him with an infectious giggle, a stupid grin tugging at Vis's dark lips before she had even found her footing on the basin's flooring.
Now standing, the warmblood stallion found this stranger had a bit of height on her; at least more than the short mares he had recently been conversing with. While he had an odd little thing for those smaller than him, he couldn't help but appreciate seeing a taller gal every now and then. Especially a taller polite mare.
He was a bit taken back by being addressed as 'sir' by a horse he seniored by a year? at most. It took his brain a moment to catch up with what had happened, enough time for Aellae's yellow rimmed eyes to lock onto Denali's own gaze and notice the glance thrown at her mount's bare crest. Waiting until their company had shook out her two toned mane before tossing a comment towards her. "Take your fill, he is as bald as a vulture and I have seen enough of them to fill ten lifetimes." She barely ended her line of grating, vaguely feminine speech before lifting off for the nearest tree.
Ra'avis let out a light huff, not bothering to try and respond to the young lammergeier as he had left Denali without a response for too long. His palomino ears perked up when she began to back into the water and he took a few small steps forward in a shy attempt to come to the pool's edge while giving her enough time to move if he got to close.
"I'm terribly sorry about the nuisance , everyday seems to be a bad day with her. My name's Ra'avis, but you can call me Vis if you'd like." Shaking his thick body to rid himself of the phantom depression Aellae had left on his back, the boy dropped his head to blow on the sapphire water's surface. He continued after a heartbeat's pause, lifting his sage green gaze to the dazzling blue of Denali's. "How'd you come across this place?"

denali; a mare with a large heart
The mare swiveled her ears momentarily backwards at the interesting birds response and felt almost ashamed for staring for maybe a second too long. Once the bird had lifted itself off the back of the stallion, a smile found her lips again and ears perked towards him once more as lyrics flowed from his maw. It's very nice to meet you, Vis." Dropping her head slightly, eyes still focused on the stallion before her, lipping at water before taking a quick drink. The reflection of the water against her eyes, gave them a certain sparkle as they reflected.
The moment he asked how she had come across this place, her own mind wondered. "I just happened to stumble upon it. I'm new to this land and so far this is the first place I have seen." Once Denali realized what had come out of her mouth, the feeling to explore began to crawl under her skin. Once the mare wished to explore, it was hard for her not to. Sky eyes glanced around slowly to search for a place that seemed explore-able, but merely landed upon the stranger before her. I guess I'll just have to figure out this guy. Some stallions were very easy to figure out, yet this one seemed a little different or at least that is what it seemed to Denali.
Denali had kept her ground, body relaxed throughout and her mind twisted conversations through it's many channels, wondering what question or statement would erupt from his maw next. There were many things a stallion could do and say, but since the one before her eyes was a mere stranger, the mare had no idea what would become of the two's first interaction, whether it would end in a fight, friendship, or to just leave as strangers still with only knowledge of name and facade. Pulling her mind back to the reality of present, gut told her to wait for him to give a question or response, but her throat emerged with words. "Are you very familiar with this land? I haven't met anyone but you. I was starting to think I was alone." A small smile of stupidity came across her face and a bashful glance to the water in between them ensued, eyes falling upon her own reflection.
@malidoodle , 388 , thank you<3 and it's not awkward at all!

"The pleasure's all mine, Denali." He liked the feel of her name as it rumbled up his throat. Moving forward, he began to slosh his mismatched legs through the blue waters, keeping a close watch on those dancing blue eyes. But Denali seemed to be holding her ground where she was, Vis making his own adjustments to give her some decent room while still going far enough into the basin to submerge himself up to his withers. The tall stallion let out a near inaudible sigh as the water began to soothe the small holes Aellae had left in his hide.
"That feeling's familiar." Ra'avis cast his springtime eyes around the small clearing, finally resting on Aellae as he reminisced for a heartbeat about the first time he had come across Horseshoe Falls. "The first sound I had heard upon entering was the Falls' and I ended up following it here."
Turning back to Denali, he offered her a soft smile when her wandering gaze fell back upon him. "It's not a half bad place to be, in all honesty, but it's just a tiny piece of Tathra."
Their conversation progressed and seemed to fall silent for the moment. The amber girl lost somewhere within the far reaches of her head and the chimeric boy content to rock his frame in silence to help the water dislodge the dried blood on his back. His own mind ticked over things to break the stillness. Maybe an odd comment on the thickness of the forest or a question about where Denali came from. But he was saved that trouble when she spoke first.
"I know enough about this land to navigate confidently, if that's what you mean." His eyes fell on her reflection, watching her shy features ripple in the gentle waves caused by the waterfall, and offered her a soft, reassuring smile. "You know, I thought the same thing. Wasn't paying attention to my surroundings as it seemed empty and nearly threw myself onto another who was already peacefully bathing in the pool."
He paused for a moment before returning his attention to Denali's physical face. "Did you come from a region with a lot of other horses?"
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"
