Trees.
So many so closely pressed.
Ra’avis had never been fond of forests like these. Claustrophobic? Maybe. But he would be damned to ever admit it. ’Insufficient room to hold a proper conversation,’ would be the closest you could squeeze from him. But he did not come to scratch his limbs on the undergrowth nor torture himself among the endless trunks for nothing. He had come with a purpose; to search out the dull roar he had heard from the outskirts of the woods.
If he could find that, perhaps he could find others drawn in by curiosity, just as he had been, to the only landmark he had found since entering the forested grounds from the scrub. What the fiery warmblood hoped for most, though, was the possibility of finding a native, or someone who at least had some experience living under canopies. Someone who could provide him with the knowledge to navigate this new land and possibly find somewhere to spend the night. Sleeping as a lone equine in the open brush for a second night was not an option.
The red dragon had made it this far and was not ready to turn back even if it meant attempting to trace this waterfall in the night.
But, it would not come to that. At least not tonight.
With the afternoon sky dimming above him, Ra'avis was relieved to find the trees thinning. Ferns and brambles that had assaulted his cannons grew small and gave way to lush grasses. The beauty of release was nothing compared the magnificent falls that tumbled before him into a blue pool. The site sent his sweaty, patchwork pelt prickling with anticipation, his original goal forgotten as the brute surged forward and into the waters.

Heaving a sigh, Invidia slowly sunk deeper into the water at the foot of the falls. Had the cerise girl been capable of admitting to satisfaction (in any circumstance other than the taboo sort) she would have in this very moment. Though Vidia was of an insatiable sort and despite her level of comfort in this strange new land she couldn't help but think something was missing. Maybe it was the primal instinct that made her a social creature, or maybe it was the need to be given the attention she had been depraved of throughout her short childhood. Either way she would have enjoyed her current situation much more if she hadn't been so alone.
But having said this, if another creature were to happen upon her now she'd surely resent them. For even though she wished for company in this instant she'd wish for their departure the next. Still, bright eyes sought movement within the grove surrounding her new-found paradise.
A sudden flash of tan, a fleeting flicker of red and there he was, standing in front of her own two eyes. It was obvious he had taken no notice of her, or maybe he had but he hadn't made any indication toward the latter. By this time he'd already submerged himself in the basin and she hadn't yet found the need to break the silence. There was hardly anything to speak of, she knew nothing of this place and assumed the same of this man. She hadn't seen any sign of life on her travels and presumed the land of Tathra to be empty.
Words gathered at the back of her throat, questions mostly. Her curiosity almost always got the best of her. Still she hated to be the one to break such lovely silence. Her lips pursed, she exhaled slowly. "Excuse me, if you don't mind me asking... Do you know anything of this place?" She pauses for merely a millisecond. "It hardly matters if you do."

His childish whims seemed to have clouded his vision. In his rush to soak his mismatched fur he had hardly noticed the faded bay that already occupied the waters. Headlong charge already begun without the will to stop, the least Vis could do for the interrupted mare was minimize his splashing on entry. Angering the only equine he's been able to find since his arrival would be a poor choice.
The red dragon couldn't tell if his efforts at being courteous had made an impact or not. Looking back into exceptionally blue eyes he was at a loss for what the girl could be thinking. Remaining quiet himself, his own sage colored orbs narrowed as his company's lips tightened and a breath escaped her. He readied to be chided for barging into this woman's piece of the world, but it never came.
Instead she asked the very question that still rattled around in the back of his head, causing his features to relax for that fraction of a heartbeat she paused.
And then followed it up with a comment he could only described as dismissive.
"Hardly matters? Would I be correct in guessing you know enough about this world to get yourself by, at least semi-comfortably?" Ra'avis tossed his dark muzzle around the surrounding clearing to emphasize his words.
He moved aside in the pool, giving her more space as he searched for deeper waters. Cocking his head around the side of his broad shoulders he lifted one palomino brow. "You know, I believe we skipped formalities. If it matters, I'm Ra'avis but Vis would be preferable."

The least she could say of this stranger was that he was courteous, though compliments were few and far between with her so it was altogether very unlikely for her to ever admit to even thinking such a thing. Especially when such piercing green eyes kept distracting her entirely. Invidia, like most all other creatures was an avid lover of beautiful things, but with the rose girl being more of the malevolent sort she hardly ever let it sway her.
A brief moment of stillness passed between the two, a moment where it seemed that they were waiting for something, anything, to happen at all. That was when he spoke, a voice that made Vidia shift within the waters, harks twitched atop her faded crown. He first counters her question with another, something she had to contemplate very little before responding. "You would be correct if you had guessed that I'd traveled alone long enough to travel any land semi-comfortably." She smiles, an expression that doesn't quite reach those bright blue eyes. She's been alone (albeit emotionally) nearly all her life, something her parents might have realized if they'd bothered to spend more time with her. Though the girl had left far too early to give either of them a chance. Had she not, she wouldn't be nearly as independent as she is now. Leaving her home had cut her childhood short and she'd been forced to grow up on her own accord.
Vis moves further away, the water ripples around him and her eyes draw to the movement, gliding over his patchwork skin in turn. He speaks and for the first time she truly remembers her manners. She smiles, a simply mirthful expression. Did names matter to anyone, anymore? "Surely it matters," she mocks his earlier jest at her own dismissive behavior. "I'm Invidia, and if I actually had friends they'd call me Vidia."
She shakes her crest, droplets cascade from inky tresses, and she stills enough to hear the roar of water off to her right. "But I don't, which is why I'm here talking to you and not back in my homeland." Maybe she across as rude, the statement was not intended to be, yet right now she hardly whether or not she was seen as polite. Invidia was callous in her bitterness, but the moment would pass soon enough and she'd return to being amicable. He'd just have to wait.

Even among the disturbances caused by the horseshoe shaped falls, Ra'avis was able to pick out the ripples caused by the bright-eyed girl as she shifted in the pool in his peripherals. He may have cast his green gaze down to watch them roll from her pale bay skin, but the slight flicker of her ears caught his attention before he could.
And maybe it was a good thing for he may have missed that smile that wasn't quite a smile that accompanied the tall mare's confident reply. His own dark lips twisted into a grin, one he was sure to make genuine in an attempt to brighten her features and bring her smile to those vibrant eyes. "There's truth in that, but being cautious rather than semi-comfortable in new lands does have its benefits."
The warmblood chimera could feel the small pebbles and clay beneath his dark grey hooves shift under his weight even as he came to a halt and spoke. The earthy basin bottom only seemed to stabilize once rosy toned mare's face slipped into a pleasant smile and she spoke once again, offering up her own name as he had not moments before.
Vis' lips would've curled in turn with hers had it not been for her comment on friends.
His tongue itches to reply and palomino ears ache to lower themselves against his bare crest, but he remains quiet and only allows them a slight backwards angle as Invidia shook out her mane before resuming her earlier thought.
"Didn't think I was doing that awfully." Flicking his ears forward once again, he arched that same brow. "Why did you leave your homeland to come here and talk to some raggedy ol' traveler?"

Pale russet harks twitch toward him in amusement. Caution had never been something that Invidia was good at. Countless times she'd gotten herself into situations that could have been avoided had she been cautious. She snorts."I'm not the kind of girl that could be considered cautious." She watches him with muted interest and it slowly dawns on her that she might as well shove her hoof directly into her mouth. She has obviously offended him and it's obvious to her now that this isn't quite the reaction she had been hoping for. But she can't please everyone and she knows this. Though a small, very small, part of her wants to fix what she's so brilliantly destroyed.
"Oh Vis,"she starts, her lips quirking at the corner. "I didn't mean for it to sound like that. What I meant was I didn't have friends." she shakes her head. She chews on her bottom lip shrugging fading shoulders. It wasn't an apology, Invidia had never been good at those so she hardly ever tried when the opportunity arose."Honestly you're much better than anyone from back home." She laughs.
This is the first thing I've written in weeks and it's so bad omg :c
