Ottie in general isn’t much of a sap; taking over the world leaves little time for emotions of any kind, especially any that would leave her soft or vulnerable. Whatever breakdowns she has are carefully timed to provoke sympathy, and any secrets she divulges are usually not secrets - just things she made up on the spot, thrown out here and there as if they have any value beyond the use she gives them - making people think she trusts them. Maybe it’s a girl thing, or maybe it’s just her. But Ottilie has lived her whole life being extra-cautious, tracking her steps before they hit the ground, pre-planning every move.
This is no different. The beach is beautiful, but she’s not here to just stare at it. Perched carefully on a rock at the edge of the sands, Ottilie leans forward as far as she can without tipping to look around. Nothing but a flat expanse of golden sand and choppy waters, unmarred by people or plant growth. That’s a blessing. Connections are all good and well, but Ottie likes to control who she spends her time with. With all the networking that’s been happening, and the entry into a new land, it’s been difficult to find time to think. So that’s what she’ll do here.
It’s hot, though. Like, searingly hot. Summer is crawling close, she can feel it, in the rising temperatures and the dryness of the air, cracking open her skin and lips. The sun is setting now and offering some relief, but the water looks too refreshing to ignore. Ottilie picks her way off the rock and into the sands, then to the water. It’s cold and clear enough that she can see her hooves, even standing knee-deep as she is, wading further by the second. Crabs scuttle away from her feet, and she can feel seaweed winding itself around her legs. Not a bad way to end the day.

KHAN
Khan had hoped that she would be in better spirits. That taunting noise of the ocean dripped occasionally in her ears, so monotonous and dull that she thought she might die. The curls of her mane twisted and tickled her eyes, distracting her alert eyes from what stood before: dune after dune of fickle sand. She huffed, rolling her eyes at every tiny grain of sand that grated against her feet. Khan hated the beach but longed for the soothing sting of salt water. The ocean was a sweet friend, a friend of convenience, but sweet nonetheless.
Stumbling a bit, Khan climbed halfway up a dune before pausing, ears pressed indelicately against her skull. Through the noise of the ocean, she could hear another clopping on rock. Again she set forth, spotting the ocean’s mistress as she came over the crest of the hill. With skeptical eyes she stepped daintily down the incline. She smiled grimly to herself, her pale gaze glowing angelically in the fading bits of sunlight. A mess of roiling emotion pooled in the back of her throat; the stranger was absolutely beautiful in the soft sunlight. Khan began to choke, but quickly composed herself before going any closer.
As she stepped into the ocean, her eyes danced across the water. Quietly, she waded into the water as if she belonged there, as if she were just returning home. Instantly cooled by the waves, Khan breathed in deep and hummed. “You must be the goddess of the sea,” she purred, gazing into the cold moon. Eyes now tossed carelessly at the woman, her body swaying sensually in the water, Khan added, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sea Goddess.”

You must be the goddess of the sea. Ottilie whips around over her shoulder to find the source of the compliment and gives it a Cheshire-cat grin. This girl must know what she's doing, to introduce herself like that; already, Ottie's opinion of her is heightened, her spirits climbing, warmth trickling into her chest. Before she can do anything stupid, Ottie reminds herself to take stock of the stranger.
Tall and slim, pale skin. Her eyes are a transparent gray. She's young, looks...strange. So, nothing to be scared of. Ottilie's grin shrinks to a small, secretive smile as she watches the girl sway in the water, so loose and unbothered that each wave changes the shape of her body. She's nothing like Ottie, who has her feet planted firmly in the sand and is already calculating every direction this conversation could go in, the feedback of her brain so loud it temporarily drowns out everything else. Absolutely nothing.
It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sea Goddess. Pleasure races through Ottilie's nerves, but she remains stoic in the face of niceties. That's her job, after all. A brief pause follows the girl's voice; Ottie is still eyeing her up and down, gauging the muscle strength, the state of her mind. It's a reflex that's impossible to turn off. The sun is starting to fade around them into cotton candy shreds.
My name's Ottilie, she says finally, head tilted, eyes glimmering. Humor does not quite touch her voice. I'd call you a goddess, but I'm not much for religion.

KHAN Khan watches the girl with eyes that hold planets and galaxies full of secrets. Within moments of meeting, she could sense the sharp nature of her companion. In fact, Ottilie did nothing to hide it. Khan took comfort in the transparency of it all, oddly enough. She was never one for stringing her companions along, though she did relish in the games Ottilie's grin suggested. Through the haze of interest, she smiles back at the girl, teeth bared in a shark's smirk. Khan was not a quite a predator (she didn't consider cold mornings abandoning a swift night predatory), but she could act the part. Their eyes seemed to possess a similar sparkle; the light behind their gazes were winking jovially.
As Ottilie sizes up Khan, the ocean swirls impatiently around them. She was always keen enough to sense what others were feeling - ignorance was unfortunately not one of her qualities. She thought that she might be wildly different from from her feminine counterpart, wildly different while wildly similar. Khan stands in the water quietly and studies the moon as Ottie analyzes her. She was not uncomfortable under the mermaid's scrutiny. A sense of well-being floods her lungs, allows her to breathe in deep the air of a blossoming friendship. A tie of vines and flowers and victory connects them; yes, something exceptional would come of this.
"My name's Ottilie," she responds after several moments of examination. "I'd call you a goddess, but I'm not much for religion." Khan's eyes crinkle in pleasure at the woman's wit - how delightful she found her.
The tips of her feral mane were dipping into the water and sticking to her neck. She rolls her eyes, bathing her surroundings with an irate glow. The smile slowly drips from her lips as the salt water envelops her senses. What was once a healing touch begins to sting all of the little cuts on Khan's body. Her mood melts from her muscles, sending signals of distress to every nerve. As a symbol of Khan's control and strength, she disguises her tenderness with words.
"My only gods are the sun and the moon - fickle bastards," Khan says quickly after her mood-shift. She casts an amused gaze at Ottie through the corner of her eye. "My name is Khan." She shook out her damp curls, each soaked strand loudly slapping her nape. "Hmm, how is Tathra treating you?" Khan could sense a restless mind when she saw one. Half of her mouth lifted in a suggestive smile; maybe her friend would see through all of this talk. RED eeeeee !!

It's interesting, this exchange. Ottie tends to judge at first sight, trusting her wily intuition more than anything else, and this girl is setting off the alarms in every part of her brain: beautiful, dangerous, more than witty enough to stay on Ottie's good side. Even though the few words they’ve said are only small talk, Ottilie is nearly sure that they are one and the same in any way that counts. Cousins at least, or sisters. Wolves. All lipstick and sharp teeth and the coastal curves of a feminine body. Ottilie likes that more than almost anything, and the sharp, saturated weight of this stranger’s eyes only makes her more convinced of one thing: Ottilie likes her.
They spend a long time looking each other over, though Ottilie’s examination and following judgement were finished within seconds. Now it’s just appreciative. And she doesn’t miss the girl’s amusement at her answer - her eyes crinkling at the edges, the ghost of a smile on her face. A mirroring grin carves itself across Ottie’s teeth. Saltwater splashes up to hit her chest and crusts white over her skin, biting into the few places her coat is marred by still-open cuts, but their interaction is so interesting that her brain completely disregards this. She squints against the glare of the sun and watches Khan’s shifting expression but says nothing about it. Not her business. The stranger masks her discomfort within seconds, anyway. Ottilie’s smirk widens at that: a girl controlled. As if.
My only gods are the sun and the moon - fickle bastards. Ottie’s smile drops halfway at that, sliding to only the ghost of a grin. She’s not sure to what to make of that, truly having never been one for gods or rituals. It seems like a weakness, to believe you’re being watched all the time. Must make it harder to sin. My name is Khan. How is Tathra treating you?
There’s a question she knows how to answer. Ottilie tilts backward to rest her weight on one foot and mulls the question over, forming many different answers in a closed mouth before she opens it to speak. A blink sends saltwater droplets flying from her lashes. Well enough, she answers finally, amusement sparkling in forest-green eyes. It won’t matter once I’m in charge of it, anyway. It’s a bit of bitchy move on Ottie’s part, more than a little overconfident, but she’s curious to see how Khan will take it.

KHAN Khan is haunted by incessant thoughts of her past companions - why should she consider this now? Now, when a dazzling adventure is being cast before her. Rays and rays of the future blind her scintillating eyes. The purity of it all set her ablaze, lighting each muscle and tendon on fire. She rolls her eyes into the gaze Ottie offers, practically purring with delight. They, though startlingly different, were similar where it counts. A hunger growls deep inside of them, something so instinctive and brash that Khan could hardly contain the energy in her joints.
"Well enough," Ottilie replies, her voice not quite lighthearted but certainly meaning no harm. Khan matches her tone of voice with snake eyes. They were absolutely caught up in a game. "It won't matter once I'm in charge of it, anyway," Ottie adds as if she was testing Khan. She slits her eyes in response, a pale and surprised glow emanating from her gaze. Confident, maybe overconfident.
A laugh, soft, possibly too haughty trails musically from her mouth. "I love a powerful woman!" Khan purrs as she spins away from Ottie. The ocean splashes and widens for her elegant frame - queen of the ocean, she was. She tosses her head back at her friend and blinks suggestively. Scene after scene of world domination flashes in her feminine scrutiny, calling perpetually to the restless heart of Ottie. A smile like none other pulls at the tired corners of Khan's mouth; she wants to taunt this woman, lure her into the jaws of impending destiny.
"Do tell me, Ottilie," Khan sings lewdly, "how do you plan to rule this land?"
im.........in love RED
