the red and gold dragon of nowhere16.3hh|5yrs|chestnut/palomino chimera|belongs to no heart
Ra'avis watched his new darkly feathered companion, Aellae, wander about the fallen needles looking for...something. He didn't actually know what she was searching for when she went about turning over clumps of loan with her large feet as she combed the same little patch of a meter or two. Pressed up against one of the bare-trunked pines that littered this forest's slopes, he enjoyed the silence of this massive piece of the South.
Above him the sun slowly ticked away the late evening hours in a cloudless sky, below him the decaying needles offered a cushioned floor for his hooves to fall in. Surrounding him were trees, trees with more than enough space for his wide frame to move comfortably under. And the silence. That haunting silence that screamed at him to turn and run, the screamed at him that this land was wrong, defiled, lifeless. It prickled through his patchwork coat and boomed silently in his ears until the nearly four foot tall bearded vulture began to pick through the needles. She made just enough noise to chase away that cursed feeling but not enough to disturb the sleepy warmblooded chimera.
So he allowed himself to close his eyes and began to slowly drift off.
"Another bald 'quine?" Aellae's rustling ceased to allow the crunching of hooves on needles to be heard just below her grating voice, distaste dripping from her hooked beak. Vis startled at the lammergeier's voice, head swinging around his palomino shoulder with ears perked to settle his sage green gaze upon the quad-colored mare. "This new influx of creatures is odder than the one that accompanied the arrival of humans."

your heart grows cold the north wind blows it carries down the distant... rose Rose thought she was being quiet, walking through the pine-riddled forest on charcoal hooves. Painted flesh quivered as bugs tried to cling to her body. Mosquitoes were the worst, so she whipped her tail along her rump and sides to kill the pesky blood suckers. Snorting, she continued to crush the drying pine needles as she moved through the night. Her mind wandered, like her, aimlessly through almost complete darkness. If the moon hadn't been so bright tonight, she may have just about run into that tree. Skirting to the side, she glared at the bare tree; only to stop and examine the deadness of it.
It was clear that something had killed it.. Perhaps a fire several years ago and it, unlike the other trees, was too far gone and couldn't come back? She didn't know, but instead of looking like an idiot staring at a tree, Rose continued on. Faint sounds came from the distance and she halted, pushing crimson ears forward to listen. She couldn't make out the words properly but she felt like she was being watched so she moved into a quicker walk. If she hadn't of looked straight in front of her, she would have nearly stepped on a tree root and fallen. Stopping, Rose looked around before, finally, noticing the weirdly bald equine and a bird.
Pinning her ears and raising her head, Rose snorted loudly at the bird. She tried, and failed horribly, to look big and mean in hopes the bird would leave. Ice blue eyes flecked with brown ran over the bird - who appeared to not be moving - and then over the horse. Stepping back a couple steps, the roan girl snorted again before returning her eyes to the bird and glaring.

Vis's dark muzzle slowly crept into a small, amused smile at this stanger's reaction to Aellae. It was only natural for a fellow equine to exhibit a flight or fight response when confronted with a small wyvern-like creature. And, to be quite honest, she seemed to be more willing to 'fight' the vulture than he had on their first meeting. All the red and gold stallion could do was lock his knees and stare her down in an attempt to not have his throat clawed out.
Now, he found little reason to react or even to flinch when Aellae raised her hackles, shaggy neck feathers fluffing up her black masked head raised up to challenge this new mare.
But he sure did when the female chimera turned to him and snorted.
Offering up a soft, embarrassed chuckle, he took a step off from the tree he had been resting upon and blocked the lammergeier's red and yellow gaze with his palomino forelegs. "I wish I could teach her to behave around strangers, but that'd be like teaching a rock to fly."
He tilted his head slightly, only now catching the bare crest she also sported. The only difference between the two 'mutants' was that the mare still held on to a forelock. Making no secret of the subject of his curiosity, Ra'avis lowered his gaze back down to her chocolate flecked eyes. "This might sound really ignorant, but I thought I was the only one." Hearing how rude he sounded, a quick, embarrassed duck of his head hoped to rectify his tone. "I should really introduce myself before going on about our little physical quirks. I'm Ra'avis, but Vis is preferred. May I ask your name?"
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"

your heart grows cold the north wind blows it carries down the distant... rose Rose watched the bird put on a display that was clearly a threat. Sure, she could have ran away and never thought of this encounter again, but where was the fun in that? Running would make her out to be a coward and the three year old hated the thought of being a coward. So, she puffed her chest up to make herself look bigger than her whole 14.3 hand self.
The stallions movements made her icy pools shift from the bird to him in an instant. He blocked the space between the equine and flying creature and the fae gave off an annoyed sigh. Rose watched his lips move and she pushed her ears forward to catch his words. Once they hit, the girl threw her ears back into a pin and snorted. "Perhaps your pet needs to be on a tighter leash." Her words were harsh and totally not a Normal-Rose tone.
When the man tilted his head, Rose took note of his lack of mane and green eyes. They were beautiful eyes too, ones she could possibly get lost in if she wasn't careful. Words hit her ears again and she focused on what he had said. It didn't even click that he had been rude so when his head went down in embarrassment, all the youngin could do was give him a confused look. How odd for a stallion of his size to bow his head in some form of submission. Noting that, Rose listened to him say something about their physical quirks and then his name. Ra'avis.. Interesting.
"I'm Rose." her voice rang out much nicer than the last time she had spoken. "And for the record, I have no physical quirks." TAG: @malidoodle ╳ NOTES: yay! glad you like!

His small, palomino ears angled themselves back at her irritated sigh, unsure if she would now turn on him now that the lammergeier had been 'removed'. But Vis was spared the trouble of figuring it out on his own as he tried to offer her a joke to reconcile and received a snappy response. Now with ears tightly pinned against his bare poll, he curled the edge of one lip. "I take it you've got a leash if you're suggesting such a thing?"
"A leash would be a good idea. Give me a bit more control over where the vulture-horse wanders and who he opens a conversation with." Aellae hopped forward and tilted her head up to glare at the warmblood stallion. Her voice cut deep and he knew she would be learing at him if her face were more fleshy. Ra'avis had to struggle to push down the urge to roll his eyes at the massive beard in favor to appear a bit more amicable when he had dipped his head and asked his odd little question.
She had a much more pleasant reaction than he had previously anticipated. Keeping his own tone light, he tried another jest to see if she'd take the bait and laugh. "Rose seems fitting. You certainly have your thorns." Taking on a slightly more curious lilt to his rumbling voice, he continued. "As you see fit. I won't argue that point, but, you must admit, I should have a bit of room to judge. You've got that extra little forelock, I've only a tail."
"Ra'avis" "Aellae"

your heart grows cold the north wind blows it carries down the distant... rose Rose pushed her red ears forward to catch his words and then eyed the bird and glared. "I don't have a leash, nor do I intend to get one. I hate birds. I pick on them for fun. That's why you best keep your little pet on one." Her words came out in a devil-like tone, but she flashed a smile. She was really sweet, honestly, but she felt some form of power by picking on the huge orange and black bird.
Icy eyes turned back to the stallion as he pointed out the obvious about their looks. She looked him over quickly then let her forelock dangle down the middle of her face. "I'd much rather not have a forelock. It's annoying. I can't understand how everyone can have a full mane." This topic of conversation seemed to cause her to relax some and she soon forgot about Aellae.
Stepping towards Ra'avis, Rose made sure to be on the opposite side of the bird. She touched the mans neck gently, taking in his scent and remembering it. The three year old girl felt a little bad for picking on Aellae, but wouldn't admit it. Reaching her head and neck over Vis's back, she looked down at the lammergeier and examined her better. Ice and brown eyes scanned over her before she stepped away from the stud. That was enough physical contact for her at the moment. "Sorry..." she whispered, a little embarrassed.
