Love. It was nothing more than a four lettered word written in the dictionary. The word itself was dangerous. It simply didn't exist. There was lust and infatuation - she was sure of this - but there was no such thing as the passionate fairy tale I'll-love-you-until-the-day-I-die kind of love. It was something that the elders told the toddlers in an attempt to give them something to believe in when they got of age to be on their own. She had watched many a wide-eyed youngster stare at the opposite sex after one of the many stories of happily ever after as if they were star struck school children that had just found the center of their universe. She knew many an equine that would smile with delight at the transformation of the child as they experimented with developing feelings that they perceived to be that illusive word 'love' but Narcissa always turned away in disgust. How could these parents allow their innocent children to fall into the snare of what could never be? Inevitably, in the end, that child would be crushed and left bitter by the realization that love wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. In fact, she could argue that in the end everyone would disappoint someone someway, somehow, and it was only a matter of time until it happened.
A singular ink-tipped hark swiveled forward as the patient exhalation of the cool mountain wind caught the ends of her burr-entangled raven-black draperies and sent them dancing across the painted flesh of her briefly exposed nape before settling them down against her shoulder blade to spiral past the smooth curve of her stomach; the loose curls evident even under the muck of her travel through the foreign land to this particular area. She could have kept well-groomed if she would have traveled along the well-worn trails that had been trodden down by hundreds of sets of hooves before her but she had been reluctant to come into contact with anyone until she had a chance to settle in and clear her mind. The last thing she wanted to do was entertain small talk with some stranger while she was trying to figure out what it was that really made her leave Wild Equines. It was an unsettling thought to think that her reason for leaving had more to do with the conflicting emotions that she had felt for the obsidian bastard Baron then she wanted to admit.
Baron. That beautiful bastard. How he had managed to break down the barriers that surrounded her heart, she had no idea. When they had met it had been on less than ideal terms. She had stolen him away from his home and his mate to prove a point that she was, after all, someone to be recognized and that men weren't the superior gender. Narcissa had always been the type to push the limits and expectations; one never knew what to expect from her next. She was like a walking ticking time bomb that was set to explode at the slightest inclination of danger. She was very much so based off of emotion and reacted impulsively - she wasn't one to sit back and bite her tongue. In fact, some had stated that she didn't have a filter and would say whatever the fuck she wanted to say - and that's pretty much how it went. She had been there done that and she wasn't the type of woman that would stand for any type of mind game no matter how fucking hot the guy might be and that's exactly what had happened with Baron. That asshole. He knew how badly Predator had fucked her up emotionally when he had left her to raise their children together and yet he still had played on her heartstrings like it was some sort of fine tuned fiddle that could be altered to his tune. Fuck that. So, she had fled; running away from her emotions and from the only home that she had ever known in an effort to regain some of her sanity.
Giving a slight shake of her artistically painted cerebrum, the Arabian and Mustang mix blood vixen continued forward, weaving through the dense foliage of the mountain side as her muscles rippled from the efforts of her climb. Sweat beaded 'pon her brow and trickled down her breast bone, dampening the alabaster flesh and painting her shades of white, gray, and brown from the mud that was caked on her frame. The peak of the mountain was only a few short steps ahead - and, although exhausted, the four year old mare leaped forward and cleared the crest, sliding to a stop on the snow-encrusted clearing. It was beautiful - breathtaking even - and as she spun around to look at the emerald grass spread in the valley below she knew that the treacherous trek had been well worth it. A small smile flickered 'pon the corners of her labarums as her harks pricked forward attentively, taking in the sounds that surrounded her as she felt a small measure of lightness in her heart. It felt good to be alone; in her own solitude. Perhaps this spontaneous move had been the best decision yet. She was sure to find out.
