This is personal A drive-by killin'
It was all her mothers' fault, her obsession with the sea. The salt tousled wild, flaxen locks, and the sun bleached her skin but still she couldn't stay away. Other girls might hate the way she looked, like a surfer; untamed, but Gracelyn kind of liked that look. If she could, she'd pierce and ink her skin, dye her hair green and listen to punk rock all day, but life didn't work like that. Politics and a dying land took precedent, and so she'd moved on like the rest of mustangs' population. But she was young, and unlike her mother and her herd, she had no problem leaving it behind.
Life was an adventure, and new places were exciting. Grace sighed, oh what she wouldn't give to fly through the sky and discover all those new places. She moved down to the waters edge, letting the sea breeze ruffle her mane and tail, feeling it ripple along her slim bodice. She lifted her cranium to the breeze, closing those cerulean eyes to enjoy the sensation for a moment.
The waves crashed in their never changing rhythm, and for once the gulls stayed silent so she could enjoy the music of the ocean. Opening her eyes, she turned her gaze down the beach to see another. She was small, about Graces' age, but pretty. Having not seen anyone for a while, the chestnut splash girl picked up a trot, and splashed through the shallows to say hello. A wide smile greeted the other girl, and a call of "Hi!" just as Gracelyn reached her.

"CALIFORNIA NEVER FELT LIKE HOME TO ME, CALIFORNIA ALWAYS FELT ALONE. CALIFORNIA NEVER FELT LIKE HOME TO ME UNTIL I HAD YOU ON THE OPEN ROAD AND NOW I'M SINGING."
The islands could easily take her if she wanted. Elowyn was from the cool, dense forests and mountains of the North, and she was ashamed to admit this was her first time seeing open water. It was an instant connection, instant gratitude: she had heard all the commotion about the ocean and white sands, always loved the thought of being one with the sun. She could call this place home if she wanted. Earlier, as she moved through Tathra and towards Kalei, she had heard the gulls and their gut wrenching sounds, almost too loud for her to endure. But she faced that small fear in the back of her mind and had pushed onward, eventually greeted by the smooth sands. Her eyes widened at the intense blue waves, cracking against the shore and screaming against still air. Elowyn was immediately entranced, in love, even.
At first, it didn't seem like anyone was around, and so she moved carelessly closer to the water. She was too busy letting her wild imagination soar to see the approaching splash girl with firey red skin. There was no quarrel when she finally did, either. Elowyn slowed herself to a stop and cocked her brow, cream curls falling over her face as an adoring smile pressed into her lips at the stranger. She had already had one pleasant experience with another woman – why not two? The others mere hi was drowned out by millions of thoughts and her focus on the waves, but Elowyn kept her eyes on the others mouth and read it, letting her smile beam brighter. “Hi there,” she purred, cream tresses passing her hind end as a dragonfly scraped her hock. “I thought I was alone out here, but I'm glad I'm not.” The sun kissed Elowyn started onward again, still wanting to reach the open water and feel it's cool against her achy legs. She looked back at Gracelyn, a silent invitation, and then carried on.
“I am Elowyn. Is this your home?”

I could use a little facetime The face to face kind
A voice as smooth as silk floated to Graces' ears, uttering a greeting. “I thought I was alone out here, but I'm glad I'm not.” she continued, the wind blowing around her blond locks in a way that made her look like she'd just stepped out of an 80's movie. The sassy cock of her brow made the red girl instantly like her. Was this newcomer her sort of speed? Had she actually found someone with personality? Grace almost did a little dance of joy until the other began moving away.
A brief moment of confusion clouded her vision, but when pale green eyes met her blues invited her forward, the confusion quickly flitted away. “I am Elowyn. Is this your home?” Grace tossed her head, replying "I wish! I've never been here before, and it's sooo pretty. I think I might stay here forever. I love the ocean so much, but I'm sure some old ratbag has their eye on this island as their kingdom," She spat. "So it might be short lived. Oh I'm Gracelyn by the way! You can call me Grace if you want to." And the venomous expression morphed into a politely cheerful one. The red girl was not one to hide herself and her volatile personality.
They reached the shallows, and Grace leaped forward, splashing the salty water up onto her belly. Her head dipped low as her back arched and freed her hindlegs, presenting her hooves to the sky with a youthful exuberance. She pranced around like a bit of an idiot while Elowyn had a seemingly deep experience with the water, but Grace was cool with her doing her thing. Who was she to judge if she'd never seen the ocean before? It was a spectacle. "So have you not seen waves before?" She asked, calming down enough to stand still next to the palomino girl.
